~Use half a teaspoon per gallon of water the first month then repeat the next month.
~Do not use fast release field or garden fertilizers or lawn food on new trees.
~Just water well to avoid transplant shock.
Planting Guide For Peat Pot Plants
~Plants with Jiffy 7 netting around the root ball do not need the netting to be removed.
~The netting is biodegradable and helps the trees to become established in the ground.
~Once your plants have arrived open the box and place them in half an inch of water.
~If you do not intend to plant the trees in a permanent location immediately use a pot or tray that drains well - add 1-6 inches of a good potting mix.
~Set plants on top of potting mix.
~Space plants so they do not touch and do not remove the netting from around the Peat-Pots.
~Plant them in a try or pot with a good potting mix.
~Keep plants moist at all times.
~Set the plants in a slightly shaded area protected from the sun. The bigger the pot or tray the longer you can wait to plant.
~Gradually place the trees in full sun.
~Container grown Green Giants can be left in the container until you wish to plant them. Keep them moist and protected from harsh sun.
Tree Planting Guide
~Choose a spot to plant and place 5-6 feet apart for a dense privacy screen, otherwise 10-12 feet apart.
~Dig a 1-3 feet wide by 6 inch deep hole.
~Add half a teaspoon of Miracle Grow to one gallon of water.
~Plant the top of the root ball making sure it is level with the soil line. Do not plant too deep.
~Mulch a 3-4 foot circle 2-3 inches deep, only 1 inch near the trunk.
~If the temperature is hot water daily as long as the soil drains well. In the coldest periods, placing straw around small, new plants is very good protection.
~Reduce watering frequency once the plants become established. Soaker hoses work well.
~To gain maximum growth do not let your plants dry out. They are hardy, but drought stunts growth. In the Winter water ~Evergreens in drought conditions. After several years Green Giants become very drought tolerant, however for maximum growth soak them every 1-2 weeks in dry Summers.
Best of luck!
